Learn How to ''Recycle'' Your Green Food Scraps and Yard Waste
Composting can be an easy and fun activity. Homeowners will learn how to recycle their indoor and outdoor green “organic” waste and turn it into a rich, high-nutrient soil and amendment. By composting, we return nutrients back into the soil, improve its structure, moisture retention and increase beneficial organisms. Plants and crops will grow stronger and healthier than ever before.
Learn How to Convert Part of Your Landscape into an Edible Garden
Take a small step towards sustainability. Turn part of your ordinary landscape into a lush edible garden. This workshop shares tips on how to grow fruits, herbs and veggies, while having fun in the garden. Be green while teaching your family a healthy lifestyle alternative and taking pride in your garden that will not only benefit you but the environment.
Recycling for Homeowners
This workshop takes recycling in the home to a whole new level by expanding on waste management. Learn creative ways to reduce, reuse, recycle, and how to replace plastic and paper in your everyday life. Attendees will learn the latest recycling trends that they can share with the entire family.
Recycling for Business and Multi-Family properties
Per the State of California Assembly Bills 341 and 1826, businesses and multi-family properties may be required to recycle depending on how much waste they generate. This workshop will teach attendees simple ways to recycle materials and other everyday items at work and at your multi-family property.
Hands-On: How to Winterize Your Home
This workshop will show you how to winterize your home indoors and outdoors. You will learn which steps to take to not only insulate your water pipes to keep them from freezing and bursting during cold winter days, but to also conserve energy.
Hands-On: When to Prune California Native Plants
Attendees will learn the best time to prune a California native garden. California native plants like to be pruned during different times of the year. They benefit from light pruning because it promotes growth and good health.
Hands-On: Irrigation System Basics and Converting to Drip
This workshop will allow you to put together a basic irrigation system. You will learn basic irrigation design principals and how to troubleshoot poorly irrigated areas. This workshop introduces steps to designing an in-line or point-source irrigation system as well as converting an existing pop-up spray system into a water-saving drip system.
Hands-On: How to Plant Trees and California Native Plants
Participants will learn how to properly plant a tree. This workshop will take you through the process, which involves marking the landscape, planting the tree, adding soil amendments and staking a juvenile tree. This workshop will also show you how to plant California native plants suitable for your area.
Hands-On: How and When to Prune Our Trees & Shrubs of Southern California
This workshop will show participants how and when to prune California native plants and Mediterranean flora. It will introduce the basics of pruning evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs for an attractive and healthy plant, which involves pinching, thinning and heading.
Hands-On: Preparing Garden Soil
This workshop teaches participants how to amend soil in order to promote plant growth in the landscape. The class will cover which type of soil is appropriate for an edible garden, a California native garden and everything in between.
